The Postpartum Mama Must Haves
Beckham’s birthday last week really made me sit and reflect on all the changes we’ve experienced in his one year of life - not just with him, but changes I experienced in this last year, too. I can’t help but think about where I was in my postpartum journey at this time last year. My labor went a bit different than I had expected, so I was trying to wrap my mind around that, all while juggling my recovery and tending to a newborn. All pretty typical things mothers go through after birth.
Looking back, it all seems like such a blur. I barely remember those middle of the night feedings, the swollen ankles, the breastfeeding cramps, the range of hormones, or not being able to sit up in bed because I had zero core strength left whatsoever. I can confidently say that in my reflection, I’m left feeling so grateful. I’m grateful for a husband that cared for me so well when I needed it most. I’m grateful that God designed my body with the ability to create, carry, and sustain life for nine months. In the same way, I’m grateful that God designed my body with the ability to heal and recover from carrying that life for nine months. Lastly, I’m so grateful for the little boy that has joined our family and made our lives so fun! Everything I went through to bring him earth side was oh so worth it, and I would do it a million times over again if it meant he could be here with us.
If you are a mama-to-be (especially a first time mom) I hope this post encourages you and helps you prepare more than anything. Nothing defeated me more than hearing comments like, “just wait until…”. Everyone’s journey is different, so keep that in mind while also remembering that your body was created to do this and God will carry you through the rest of it!
Now, lets get to the products that helped me through my postpartum journey! Most things are pretty self explanatory, so I’ll keep it short. I took anything and everything that was offered to me at the hospital, but here are some other items that helped me in my recovery at home. I opted for all the comfort!
Maternity Robe & Nursing Gown - Thee softest & comfiest pajama set ever! So convenient for pumping or nursing, too!
3 Pack Nursing Bras - I lived in these bad boys! So comfortable and afordable!
Pumping Bra - This is the pumping bra I had. It’s great for the price and for having your hands free!
Reusable Nursing Pads - These are so great to have on hand and just throw in the washer when needed.
Always Discreet Disposable Underwear - Ditch your pride and get these. You won’t regret it!
Cotton Underwear - When you graduate from the disposable underwear, you'll want these. They’re the best, hold-you-in, comfortable underwear you could live in postpartum!
Compression Socks - These helped so much with swollen feet and ankles in the final weeks of my pregnancy, as well as after labor!
Frida Mom has some GREAT postpartum recovery products. My favorite items I used from them was their Ice Maxi Pads, Saline Nipple Spray, Healing Foam and their Witch Hazel Liners. The only other healing product I used that wasn’t Frida Mom was this Dermoplast Spray. Would highly recommend any of these!
These are just some of the items that I used and found so beneficial in my postpartum journey. You know I love sharing about things that I love, but like always, there are so many other products out there to choose from, so you have to do some research to figure out what’s best for you. I’m curious - If you have littles already, what were some of your favorite postpartum recovery items? If you’re a mama-to-be, what are some items on your list? Feel free to comment on this blog or DM me on instagram - always love hearing from you <3
